15A- Figuring out Buyer Behavior No. 2

Report Findings and Draw Conclusions:

This assignment required me to interview three additional people.  I chose to continue interviewing people from the same segment I did last time, college students.  This time, I interviewed my friend Brett, my cousin Julia, and my roommate Cassidy. Each interview gave me more insight as to how I could make my opportunity better, what matters the most to them in regards to price and quality, and how I could expand my opportunity.
The first person I interviewed is my best friend Brett, who is currently a Junior at Towson University.  Brett, was going to visit for the LSU game, however he concluded that the flight and prices were too expensive.  The big elephant in the room was that there wasn't a direct flight.  Therefore, Brett thinks is my opportunity is essential.  He does not understand how the University hasn't persuaded the Gainesville airport to send out direct flights.  His biggest concern is quality, not price.  And quality to him is getting customers where they want to be directly.
The next person I interviewed was my cousin Julia.  Julia is a senior at Oneonta.  She saw the opportunity at hand however noted that it didn't really apply to her.  She stated I should not only persuade the Gainesville airport, but all airports residing near colleges to require direct flights home for their students.  This definitely got me thinking.
Finally, the last person I interviewed was my friend Cassidy.  Cassidy was extremely blunt in that it is price that matters.  She would not have to bring her car here if Gainesville had direct flights.  She does the 2 hour drive, to save sometimes hundreds of dollars.  She was really the most frustrated out of all the people I interviewed.
All in all, these interviews made me realize that quality and price are the most prevalent.  None of the people I interviewed mentioned comfort, or duration, just more the fact that price and the fact that they can't get to their direct destination is frustrating.

  1. Hey Sarah,
I think it’s great that you’ve narrowed down a new market outside of students. Alumni and football fans are definitely a great alternate source of business. I imagine there are tons of alumni that would love to attend home games and other events if they could have a convenient flight to Gainesville. I think it’s also interesting that Julia saw a similar trend in other college towns.

  2. Hi Sarah!
Really awesome that you have interviewed a different type of people this time! Flights are definitely difficult when it comes to traveling in smaller, regional areas. I always have trouble finding flights out of Gainesville, and I usually resort to buying a bus ticket to JAX or Orlando for a flight! I don't mind layovers so much as the price flying in and out of Gainesville. As a college student, I feel as though time isn't as important to me as money. Definitely great insights for you from your interviews!
