14A- Halfway Reflection
1) Tenaciousness is a competency. What are the behaviors that you have used (or developed) to keep up with the requirements of this course?
- This course, although not incredibly difficult is definitely time consuming. There are typically two assignments each week, that involve critical thinking and lots of explaining. I realized this after the first week, and knew I would have to manage this class with my finance class. This class is great in that our professor gives us the ability to get ahead. All assignments are open, and available to do as you please. My biggest competency has been making sure I get the two assignments done that are due each week on a Monday. That way, I do not have to worry about ENT until the following Sunday, when Peer reviews are do. Hence, I have definitely made sure to stay ahead and prioritize the flexibility our professor enables us.
2) Tenaciousness is also about attitude. Talk about a moment or two when you felt like "giving up." What pulled you through? Do you feel like you've developed a tenacious attitude during the past two months? What experience or experiences most contributed to this?
- For one of our assignments, we needed to create an elevator pitch. At first, I fully recorded my elevator pitch in my pajamas with wet hair from the shower. I wanted so badly to submit this version, and ultimately did at first. I was so tired and exhausted from studying finance, I figured submitting anything at that point was sufficient. However, when I went to declare that I had did the assignment, it stated " should be dressed professionally, standing up, etc. I had done none of the above. I felt so guilty about it, and ultimately procrastinated for two hours until I finally put on a nice shirt, re-recorded my pitch and submitted this one instead. My first pitch was better, however it didn't fulfill the requirements of the assignment. I knew I was better than cheating myself and this class.
3) Three tips. What are three tips you would offer next semester's student about (1) fostering the skills that support tenacity and (2) developing the 'tenacious mindset' ?
- To foster your tenacity, I would definitely engage in the mindset that being ahead is sufficient, and being on time means your behind.
- Time management is your best friend!
- Be in the mindset that the people in your group and yourself are a team, working together. Get your assignments done so every group member can get their peer reviews done, and finish all the assignments for that week in one day!

Hi Sarah! Great tips! They were pretty similar to mine. After reading what you had to say, I feel like we have had a very similar experience in this class. This class has definitely pushed my creativity beyond its limits that I had before. I'm excited to see what it has to hold for the next month and a half. Your story about giving up was also very interesting! I have had a similar feeling as well.
ReplyDeleteHey Sarah,
ReplyDeleteIt takes tenacity to knock out a class this time consuming that early every week. With finance that’s the only way to do it. In a way, it can give you a little creative break which can be helpful I’ve found. Also, your answer for number two really resonated with me. There have been so many times when I feel like less than the bare minimum would suffice. Like you said, its just cheating yourself.
