2. Scooters fall when I try to park by Library West
WHY it exists: Scooters are more convenient and affordable for college students to have than cars. Therefore, there are thousands of them. Spots are not outlined and some people put their side break down, rather than the main break. When I try to squeeze my scooter in, a bunch always fall which is embarrassing.
3. Dumpster overflowing at Avenyl

WHY it exits: The Gainesville airport is too small. It only does connecting to Charlotte or Atlanta to get to New York. This at least triples my travel time.
9. Parking for Visitors
WHY it exists: Parking is only lifted at certain times on the weekends/ game days. There is a huge lack of space. Visitors don't want to spend money on a decal for a weekend when they are already paying for a rental car.
10. Bagels in Gainesville
WHY it exists: The water is not the same water that they use in New York nor are the ingredients. Fluffiness and taste are missing.

20. Texting rather than conversing in person about important conversations
WHY it exists: Us millennials are apart of the technological age. We always have a phone in our hands, computer in our backpack, etc. Rather than converse on the phone or in person, we text because it is easier, less awkward, and essentially all we have known. Our generation lacks these important social skills.
Reflection
As I started this assignment, I became excited because I realized I had many things to complain about. Yet, it wasn't until I was struggling with the 5th bug, that I realized this was the root of my problem. I was doing the assignment completely wrong, I was not thinking like an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs do not complain, rather they find opportunities and problems to solve. My struggles lied in focusing on the problem itself, rather than "WHY this problem actually exists".
I changed my formatting by adding the "WHY it exists" column like the example had, and the task became so much easier. It kept reiterating to me that the task was for unmet needs as opposed to things that simply just "bother me." This assignment encourages me that I will be learning a lot in this class, as I have already changed my mindset immensely after this first task.
Point 1 – Opportunity to have food trucks come in on such days
ReplyDeletePoint 14 – I feel there can be an opportunity to create a holder attached on phones for keys and key fobs/dongles
Point 18 – I completely agree with you on not being able access your money when you should be able to. Unfortunately, there is an oligopoly on the monetary systems and payment service companies are either inefficient or charging exorbitant fees for simple tasks.
Hi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with most of the points you made as they are "bugs" that I have in my daily life as well.
Point 2 - More parking for scooters needs to become available because there is a demand within the student population.
Point 15 - opportunity for a better system/website exists as it cannot support the demand for student tickets.
Point 19 - sororities tend to be overpriced for girls not living in house as they are still having to cover the mortgage of the house and payroll of the employees. For in house girls, the price is actually a deal because they receive housing, meals, and social opportunities all for the price of an apartment.
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah! I had very similar bugs to you. I also changed my mindset on how I view things after I typed up this assignment.
Point 16: I believe that UF should let people rent out mats. The gyms can clean them right after. This way you don’t have to use their mats on the floor or lug your own.
Point 14: I also lose my apartment key a lot. I think if you attached it to your phone, you would never lose it. Amazon has some devices for this.
