9A- Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2
My next 5 interviews consisted of people who fell outside of my market. I purposely found people who I thought would be appreciative of my unmet need, but didn't need it themselves. These individuals were people who didn't necessarily care about spending more money on flights, as long as they got home. Nor did they care about wasting their whole day, again, as long as their final destination was home. In other words, their commute how it is now is not bad enough to alter anything at the Gainesville airport.
Who: After conducting 5 interviews, I found that there are a lot of people who fall outside of my market. As I mentioned before, there are students and parents who are okay with the traveling, prices, and flight times they already engage in. These people are not looking for change. I spoke with my friend Eliana, who has her car here. She states, she is so happy that flights out of Orlando go directly to New York. She doesn't mind that she has to drive 2 hours, in fact that is the reason why her parents allowed her to have her car here. Another interviewee that stood out to me was Adam. Adam states he is not effected by price at all when booking flights to New York from Gainesville. This is because he books all his flights months in advance. Therefore, he gets the flights for such good prices that he doesn't even mind the connecting flight and getting on and off the airplane. Finally, the last 3 people I interviewed was 3 sets of parents. I figured these parents would want their kids coming on a direct flight home, however they just didn't really care. They state that they come home once or twice a year, so this is what they signed up for. They are 18, and it doesn't effect them as parents.
What: The need I identified, having a direct flight to New York from Gainesville, differs when price is involved. Some people don't need the direct flight home, they just want a price that is cheap, and don't care how they get to their destination just as long as they get there. The direct flight would just be a plus.
Why: The underlying need of the outsiders is the same as people who lie within the boundary of my need. However, the people who lie within the boundary of my need, simply just feel stronger about direct flights in general. Whereas the outsiders, care more about money spent, and just getting to a destination. The insiders, those who lie within the boundary, care about convenience, time spent, and money.
