24A- Venture Concept No.1 , Gainesville on the Go
24A- Venture Concept No. 1
1. Opportunity:
- The University of Florida is the nations fourth largest university in terms of enrollment. While many students are in state students, there are a plethora of students who are out of state. Many of these students are from New York, New Jersey, Long Island, etc.
- The University of Florida was just ranked number 8 on the best public universities list. This is drawing more students to attend the university.
- The need is to incline more out of state students to attend the university, and for those who already do, to have an easier time getting home.
- Currently, the Gainesville airport does not offer direct flights to these particular locations. Either you pay for an expensive connecting flight and waste your whole day, or you spend $250 for an Uber to get to the Orlando airport in addition to already paying for your flight.
- Enlarging the Gainesville airport would provide more incentive for out of state students to attend, make it easier for those people who are already UF students to get home, and be more efficient in terms of the money being spent.
2. Innovation:
- To get this all to work, I would have to talk with prospective students, airlines, and owners of the Gainesville regional airport. Once that is all cleared, I would have to set up budgets in order to get bigger planes, better airlines, and enlarge the facility as a whole.
- For Individuals, this will put their money to better use. They will get exactly what they pay for. A direct flight to their family and home.
- For businesses, airlines will be able to expand to the Gainesville area. They will also be able to offer better quality service by getting their customers on direct flights as opposed to connecting ones.
- For the University, this will make it easier for prospective students to convince their parents to let them attend the University of Florida from out of state. This is because it is easier to visit each other and get to them in case of an emergency or anything.
3. Venture Concept:
- Individuals will use my services offered if they care about their time, cost, and efficiency. They will be able to book direct flights without worrying about expensive Uber costs, time between their connecting flights, etc.
- Businesses will offer their services to respond to the large customer base that is the out of state students who attend the University of Florida. Who knows, one can even become a sponsor for the University.
- Parents will encourage their kids to book direct flights home from Gainesville in order to avoid Uber costs, missing connecting flights, etc.
- Friends and family will be inclined to visit more.
- Price Points: The prices will need to be less expensive then those at Orlando plus the cost of the Uber/ ride it takes to get there. People are looking for the cheapest and most efficient flight home.
- Customer Service: The airport and it's members would need to be able to handle the demand of the hundreds of students who are looking for direct flights home to the prospective locations I mentioned above.
- Location: The Gainesville Regional airport.
- Employees: Security would need to be increased immensely, as well as people working at the desks. Right now I assume there is about 20 people working at the airport not including flight attendants and pilots. We would need way more than that.
4. Unfair Advantage:
- Passing up an airport that offers direct flights that is basically on the campus is very hard to do.
- The airport is given a huge customer base because of its prime location, it being 15 minutes away from campus.
What's next?
- I want to encourage consumers to use this airport, and bump up its quality. After getting the direct flights and enlarging the area, I would like to work on adding food courts, places to shop, etc. Right now, there is only one little food area at the Gainesville airport. There is hardly someone there working to even allow consumers to purchase food.
For me?
I'd love this opportunity to work out. It not only helps me, but my family, friends, and the university. It would make traveling to and from the place I go to get educated that much easier.
Hi Sarah! Really great summary of what your venture is. I think you overall did an excellent job touching on the ideas and strengths. I would like to see you go into a little more depth about the service so that investors would know what options there are. Also, are there different levels of the service? What is the marketing and advertising for it?
